TATA Steel today, a global player in steel-making, is the tenth largest steel producer in the world with employee strength of above 81,000 across five continents. The Company has always had significant impact on the economic development in India and now seeks to strengthen its position of pre-eminence in international domain by continuing to expand its operations and production capabilities. The Indian operations draws its greatest strength and its competitive position as one of the lowest cost producers of steel in the world from the quality and yield of its raw material units, The mines have successfully offered raw material security and have partially insulated Tata Steel from the volatility of the global markets. The Company has, therefore, continuously modernised and expanded its raw material facilities and is expanding its mining capacity for iron ore to add an additional capacity of 23 MTPA.
